Founders

Arlini Evans, the company co-owner, has a long history in the food and beverage industry. Her family has been involved in the restaurant business for over 30 years. A graduate from Trisakti University, Arlini meet and later married Alun, a New Zealand expatriate who also has an incredible passion for coffee.

AlunArlini filteredArlini and Alun live in Bukit Sentul, just up the hill from Merdeka Coffee's office and roastery. Apart from coffee their interests include golf, sailing, mountain biking, travel and good wine.

In 2005 the couple will travel to Sumatra, Irian Jaya, Flores, Sulawesi and Central Java to continue to foster the mutually beneficial relationships they share with their growers.

Alun Evans is currently running Antipodean Coffee (cafes) and Merdeka Coffee (Coffee and Roasting). In 2015 he established DELI RIUM Café concepts. He frequently spends time in both Indonesia and Malaysia.

From 1998 to 2010, Alun was based in Jakarta, sourcing coffee directly from over 30 different farming communities through Indonesia.

Travelling from Takengon (Aceh) to Tujuh Desa (Papua) working with coffee families to produce great coffee in an ethical and socially responsible way.

Before moving to Indonesia Alun worked in a range of food & beverage ventures in New Zealand, Australia and U.S.A.
